Our System: Installs fast because it isn’t drywall. Metal framing and the ceiling grid go in within a few days. Electricians complete their work in 1–2 days. Then crews install walls, ceiling tiles, and trim—usually wrapping everything in roughly two weeks.
Drywall: Often takes two months and creates a mess. Carpenters frame, then a drywall crew hangs, tapes, muds, and sands—each step requiring drying time. Additional contractors (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) add even more delays.
Our System: Uses breathable fiberglass wall panels (1" or 2½", depending on the project) with a durable, paintable finish. The walls allow moisture to pass through and dissipate instead of trapping it, helping prevent mold and mildew.
Drywall: Not breathable and tends to trap moisture, increasing the risk of mold growth.
Our System: Wall panels are removable, giving you direct access to the foundation, plumbing, and electrical when needed.
Drywall: Blocks access and can hide issues, including mold that forms behind the wall with no easy way to detect it.
Our System: Comes in paintable or fabric finishes with no hidden issues that appear later.
Drywall: Paintable, but not designed for below-grade conditions.
Our System: The Unlimited Basement Finishing System™ includes a Limited Lifetime Warranty for product defects and a Limited Lifetime Warranty for mold and mildew resistance.
Drywall: May or may not come with a warranty—and basement moisture can void many of them.
Our System: Built from premium Owens Corning® insulation (1" or 2½" thick), providing up to R-19 thermal performance to help reduce heat loss and support potential savings on heating and cooling³.
Drywall: Has an R-value of roughly R-0.45—far lower than insulated wall panels.
Our System: The insulated wall panels absorb sound, and the custom-designed ceiling system helps minimize noise traveling upstairs. That means basement activities—TV, music, kids playing—stay noticeably quieter for the rest of the home.
Drywall: Reflects sound instead of absorbing it, leading to a noisier room.
Our System: Installed only by certified professionals trained in the systematic procedures developed at the Owens Corning® Science and Technology Center in Granville, Ohio.
Drywall: Installer skill varies widely, and there’s no guarantee of training or certification.
The Unlimited Basement Finishing System™ wall panels carry a Class A fire rating and meet both International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) requirements for interior wall finishes.
Basements face unique challenges—moisture, temperature fluctuations, and limited access to utilities. The Unlimited Basement Finishing System™ was designed at the Owens Corning® Science and Technology Center specifically to handle these conditions. While drywall uses organic materials that can feed mold growth and blocks access once installed, our system uses inorganic, breathable materials with removable panels. The result: a basement that stays dry, accessible, and comfortable for decades.
¹ While the materials are designed to resist mold and mildew, no product can guarantee against mold or mildew growth.
